This link kills spam
March 13th, 2008 — BoomerAn interesting idea that I’ve seen before, but I never had a website that I could put this in until now. The idea behind this is that bots search webpages for email address. They follow links around the website, looking for an email address on the website, and save it and do whatever they want with it. The bot that harvests the email address goes to this one link, which goes to this webpage. unfortunately (for the spammer), all the emails are invalid. Not only that, but since the emails listed are pretty much random, there is an infinite amount. The most devilish part of this whole idea however, is that there is another link that goes to the same webpage, which has several more other randomly generated emails. This loop keeps on going and going, and as the spammer gets an increasingly amount of fake emails, this will cause the spammer to throw away everything since it’s hard to tell what is true or not. Whether or nto this works, I don’t know. I don’t have very many visitors. And hey, you can never be too sure, so why not try to protect yourself and visitors, even though it may not work? All it requires is a link.
